Wallpaper - Patterned Feature Wall
Transform a room without a full renovation
Wallpaper remains one of the fastest ways to completely change the character of a room, from subtle textures to bold statement patterns, without the time and mess of major renovation work. It's a popular choice for feature walls, bedrooms, and offices across the UAE.
Professional hanging makes a real difference to the finished result, proper wall preparation, pattern alignment and seam work are what separate a high-end finish from a visibly amateur one, especially with bold or repeating patterns.

Wallpaper vs paint vs wall panels
Paint gives you color. Wallpaper gives you character: pattern, texture, and depth that flat paint simply cannot do. Here is an honest comparison with the other ways to finish a wall, so the choice fits the room and the plan.
| Wallpaper | Paint | Wall panels | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Look and texture | Patterns, textures, murals, real depth and detail | Clean flat color, quick to refresh | 3D slats and boards, modern architectural feel |
| Installation | Hung panel by panel by a fitter, usually a day per room | Rolled on quickly, fastest of the three | Fixed to battens or directly to the wall |
| Changing your mind later | Strippable types peel off cleanly when you redecorate | Repaint anytime, easiest to change | Panels can come down and often be reused |
| Durability | Good vinyls wipe clean and resist scuffs well | Marks show, but touch-ups are easy | Hardest wearing of the three |
| Best for | Feature walls, bedrooms, dining rooms, adding personality | Whole apartments, rentals, fast makeovers | TV walls, offices, high-impact areas |
Many of our customers combine the two: wallpaper on the feature wall, paint everywhere else. If you are unsure which wall should be the feature, book a site visit and we will look at the room with you.
How to choose wallpaper in the UAE
The pattern is the fun part, but the material and the wall underneath decide whether it still looks good in three years. Here is what to get right before you fall in love with a design.
Feature wall or full room
One wallpapered wall behind the bed or sofa gives you all the impact with less cost and less visual noise. Full rooms suit subtle textures and small-scale patterns. Bold, large-scale prints on all four walls can overwhelm a normal-sized bedroom, so be honest about the room's size.
Vinyl vs non-woven
Vinyl wallpapers have a wipeable surface, which makes them the sensible pick for dining rooms, hallways, and kids' rooms. Non-woven wallpapers hang beautifully and come off cleanly later, but most are not washable. Match the material to how the room gets used, not just how it looks.
Humidity: kitchens and bathrooms
Standard wallpaper and steam do not mix. Bathrooms and kitchens need specifically moisture-resistant vinyls, and even those want decent ventilation. For a steamy bathroom with no window, tiles or panels are the more honest recommendation, and we will tell you that.
Pattern scale and room size
Large prints make big walls feel intentional and can shrink a small room visually. Small, busy patterns can feel restless in a bedroom you want calm. As a rule of thumb: bigger room, bigger pattern; smaller room, smaller or subtler pattern. Always check the pattern repeat, since large repeats mean more waste and more rolls.
Sun-facing walls
The wall opposite full-height glass gets the harshest light in a UAE home, and strong sun fades wallpaper dyes over the years. If that wall is your feature wall, choose a lightfast-rated paper and plan on curtains for peak sun hours. Dark, saturated prints fade the most visibly.
The wall underneath matters
Wallpaper shows what is beneath it. Bumps, old roller texture, and patched holes telegraph through, especially with smooth or metallic papers. Walls need to be smooth, clean, and primed before hanging. Proper prep is half the job, and it is what separates a professional finish from a DIY disappointment.
Bringing a photo of the room helps enormously. Send it on WhatsApp and we will suggest materials and patterns that suit the light and size.
Living with wallpaper in a UAE home
Wallpaper is not fragile, but it has its own care rules. Follow them and it stays crisp for years.
Wipe, don't scrub
Wipeable vinyls handle a damp cloth for fingerprints and splashes, which covers most of daily life. Scrubbing, abrasive sponges, and harsh cleaners wear through the printed surface. For non-woven papers, stick to a dry soft cloth or a gentle dusting, and test any damp cleaning on a hidden spot first.
Watch the seams in humid months
Humidity can make edges lift slightly, especially in rooms where the AC cycles on and off. If you spot a lifting seam early, a dab of seam adhesive pressed flat fixes it invisibly. Left alone, lifted edges catch dust and curl further, so a quick check now and then pays off.
Corners and small lifts
Inside corners are where wallpaper works hardest, and tiny lifts there are normal over time rather than a fitting failure. Keep a small tube of wallpaper seam adhesive in a drawer. A two-minute fix once a year keeps everything looking professionally hung.
Keep splash zones in mind
The wall behind a bathroom sink or next to a kitchen hob lives a harder life than the rest of the room. Wipe splashes promptly rather than letting water sit on seams. In genuinely wet spots, a splashback or tiles protect the paper and look intentional doing it.
More wallpaper questions, answered honestly
Can wallpaper go straight over painted walls? +
Yes, if the paint is sound, clean, and matt or eggshell. Glossy paint needs sanding first so the paste can grip, and any flaking paint must be scraped and filled. A primer coat before hanging gives the best adhesion and makes future removal much easier.
Is wallpaper okay in bathrooms? +
In a well-ventilated bathroom, away from direct splashes, a moisture-resistant vinyl works fine and looks great. In a small steamy bathroom with poor ventilation, we usually advise against it, because persistent moisture lifts seams no matter how good the paper is. Send us a photo and we will give you a straight answer for your bathroom.
How long does it take to wallpaper a room? +
A single feature wall is usually done in a day. A full average bedroom takes one to two days including prep, depending on pattern matching and how many corners, windows, and sockets the room has. Patterned papers take longer than plain textures because every strip must align.
Can it be removed later without damaging the wall? +
Strippable and non-woven wallpapers are designed to peel off in full sheets, leaving the wall ready for paint or new paper. This is one reason proper priming before hanging matters so much. Older traditional papers can need steaming off, which is messier but still routine work for a fitter.
Will wallpaper hide my wall's imperfections? +
Textured and busy patterned papers disguise minor unevenness quite well, which is one of their real advantages. But they will not hide cracks, large dents, or badly patched areas, those need filling and sanding first. Honest prep beats hoping the paper covers it, because it will not.
How long does wallpaper last? +
Quality wallpaper in a normal living room or bedroom holds its looks for many years, often outlasting several paint cycles. Sun-heavy walls and humid rooms age it faster. When tastes change, strippable papers make redecorating simple, which is part of why people choose wallpaper over a bold paint color they might tire of.

Common questions
Is professional installation really necessary for wallpaper? +
For bold or repeating patterns, yes, proper alignment and seam work make a significant visible difference compared to a DIY installation.
Can wallpaper be installed over existing paint? +
In most cases yes, as long as the wall surface is smooth and stable, we assess this during the free site visit.
How long does wallpaper installation take? +
Most feature walls or single rooms are completed within 1-2 days depending on size and pattern complexity.
Is wallpaper suitable for humid rooms like bathrooms? +
Standard wallpaper is best suited to living rooms, bedrooms and offices, for bathrooms we typically recommend moisture-resistant wall panels instead.
