How to choose SPC flooring in the UAE
Not all SPC is equal. Two planks can look identical in a photo and perform very differently in your home. These are the things we check ourselves before recommending any SPC to a customer.
Wear layer first, looks second
The clear wear layer on top is what actually resists scratches from furniture, pet claws, and gritty sand tracked in from outside. A thicker wear layer suits busy family homes and commercial spaces. Always ask what the wear layer is before comparing two quotes.
Plank thickness and rigidity
Thicker, denser planks feel more solid underfoot and bridge tiny subfloor imperfections better. Hold a sample plank and try to flex it. Quality SPC barely bends. If it flexes like a credit card, keep looking.
Click-lock quality
Most SPC installs as a floating floor with click-lock joints, no glue needed. Well-milled locking edges click together tightly and stay flat. Poor milling leaves visible seams that collect dust. This is hard to judge from photos, which is why seeing physical samples matters.
Underlay, attached or separate
Many SPC planks come with underlay pre-attached, which softens footfall noise, a real consideration in apartments. If yours does not, a separate underlay does the same job. Either way, do not skip it upstairs.
Finish and texture in real light
Embossed wood-grain textures look far more convincing than flat prints, but showroom lighting lies. Take a sample home and look at it in your own daylight and evening light before deciding. We bring samples to every site visit for exactly this reason.
Acclimation before installation
SPC is dimensionally stable, but good installers still let the planks sit in the room for a day or so before fitting, so everything settles to your home's temperature. If an installer wants to lay boxes straight off the truck in August, ask questions.

Living with SPC flooring in a UAE home
SPC is low maintenance, not no maintenance. A few small habits keep it looking new for years in UAE conditions.
Sand is the real enemy
Fine desert sand is abrasive. A good doormat at every entrance and a quick sweep or vacuum with a hard-floor head does more for your floor's lifespan than any cleaning product. This matters more in ground-floor villas and homes near open areas.
Mop damp, not wet
A well-wrung damp mop with a mild cleaner is all SPC needs. Skip steam mops and harsh chemicals like bleach, which can dull the wear layer over time. The floor is waterproof, but there is no reason to flood it.
Furniture pads are cheap insurance
SPC resists dents well, but heavy furniture dragged across any floor will mark it. Stick felt pads under sofa legs, dining chairs, and anything you move for cleaning. It takes ten minutes and saves the finish.
Sunlight and balconies, honestly
SPC handles indoor UAE life, including bright rooms, without warping. But like any printed finish, years of harsh direct sun can fade the pattern, and uncovered balconies in peak summer heat are not the right place for it. Many SPC planks come with underlay already attached, in which case you do not need a separate one. If yours does not, a thin underlay is worth adding, especially in apartments, because it softens footfall noise and smooths out minor subfloor unevenness.
Is SPC comfortable underfoot in bedrooms? +
SPC feels firm and solid, closer to tile than to carpet. Most people find it perfectly comfortable, and it does not feel cold the way tile can. If you want a softer step in bedrooms specifically, LVT flooring is the warmer-feeling alternative, and some customers mix the two across different rooms.
Can SPC be installed on stairs? +
Yes, with matching stair nosing profiles for a safe, finished edge. Stairs take more labor than flat floors because every tread is cut individually, so mention your staircase when you request a quote and we will measure it during the site visit.
Will heavy furniture leave dents in SPC? +
The rigid core resists denting far better than laminate or soft vinyl, but no floating floor is indestructible. Very heavy point loads, like a piano or a safe, can mark it over time. Felt pads under normal furniture are enough for everyday life.
Does SPC flooring fade in sunlight? +
In normal indoor rooms, even bright ones, fading is not a practical concern. What can fade the pattern over several years is harsh, direct sun beating on the same spot daily, for example right inside full-height west-facing glass with no curtains. Curtains or blinds solve it completely.
How do I clean SPC flooring day to day? +
Sweep or vacuum regularly, then damp-mop with a mild floor cleaner. Avoid steam mops, bleach, and abrasive scrubbing pads. That is genuinely the whole routine, which is a big part of why busy households choose it.
