Charcoal Board - Fluted Wall Cladding
A modern textured finish for feature walls
Charcoal boards are fluted composite panels with deep grooves that create striking shadow lines, giving walls a rich, textured finish in a deep charcoal tone. They suit contemporary interiors where a flat painted wall feels too plain.
They are widely used for TV walls, office receptions, restaurant interiors and bedroom feature walls across the UAE, and the panels are moisture resistant and easy to wipe clean, so they hold up well in everyday use.

Charcoal louvers vs other fluted wall finishes
Short version: charcoal boards are the dark, dramatic end of the fluted-panel trend. Slim louvers in a deep charcoal tone that photograph beautifully and make a TV visually disappear into the wall. Here is how they compare to the alternatives.
Charcoal board (this page)
Slim charcoal-toned louvers in composite, fixed as vertical slats. Deep shadow lines, a modern look, and the dark tone lets a TV blend into the wall when switched off. A favorite for media walls and bedheads.
Natural wood flutes
Real timber slats with genuine grain and warmth. Beautiful, but heavier, and natural wood moves with humidity changes, so it needs proper sealing and acclimation. Charcoal composite is the lower-maintenance route to a similar rhythm.
Dark painted accent wall
A dark paint color gives some of the drama with minimal effort and is easy to redo. But paint is flat: no shadow lines, no texture, and dark paint shows every wall flaw and dust mark under bright light.
Fluted-look wallpaper
Wallpaper printed or embossed to suggest slats. Quick to install and easy to remove later, but the effect is visual only; side light reveals the flatness, and it cannot match the depth of real louvers.
Drawn to the fluted look but unsure about going dark? Samples settle it faster than photos. Message us on WhatsApp with a picture of your room, or book a visit to see the boards in person.
How to choose charcoal boards in the UAE
All charcoal louvers look alike in thumbnails. In person, the differences are obvious. These are the things we check ourselves before recommending any board to a customer.
Louver width and gap
Slim, dense louvers read modern and energetic; wider slats with bigger gaps read calmer. The gap size also decides how visibly dust settles. Look at full-size samples, not phone photos, because scale deceives on screen.
How dark is the charcoal
Charcoal runs from soft grey-black to near-black, and undertones, warm versus cool, matter against your furniture. Check samples in your room's own light; showroom spotlights make everything look richer than home lighting does.
Keep them dry
Charcoal boards suit living rooms, bedrooms, and hallways. They are not bathroom materials; moisture is their weakness. For wet areas, choose the waterproof ranges that are made for the job instead of forcing the wrong product.
Plan TV mounting first
The dark tone is ideal behind a television, making the screen blend in when off. But the bracket and cables must be planned before the louvers go up: retrofitting a bracket afterward means removing slats you just paid to install.
Fixing method matters
Adhesive, nails, or battens, depending on the board and the wall. Battens give the straightest lines on wavy walls. Ask which method suits your wall; the answer should depend on the wall itself, not be identical for every job.
Mind the obstacles
Switches, sockets, and thermostats interrupt louver runs. Plan cutouts in advance so slats end cleanly at obstacles instead of awkward notches. This is fiddly work, and it is exactly what separates good installs from average ones.

Living with charcoal louvers in a UAE home
Dark and dramatic, with one honest trade-off: dust shows. Everything else is easy.
Dust shows on dark finishes
The honest trade-off of near-black: fine dust is more visible than on light walls. A soft brush or vacuum with a brush attachment every week or two keeps louvers crisp. It is quick once it is routine.
Damp cloth for marks
Fingerprints and smudges wipe off with a slightly damp soft cloth. Avoid soaking the joints, and skip abrasive pads, which can lighten the finish unevenly and leave visible patches.
Sunlight and dark colors
Prolonged harsh sun can fade dark finishes over time. On sun-blasted walls, window coverings do more than any product choice. In normal indoor light, fading is not a practical concern.
Do not hang heavy things on louvers
Louvers are decorative cladding, not structure. Fix shelves, TVs, and heavy decor through to the wall behind, not to the slats themselves. We can mark fixing points during installation if you plan to hang things later.
More charcoal board questions, answered honestly
Can charcoal boards go in bathrooms? +
No, not the standard boards; steam and splashes are their weakness. Bathrooms need waterproof ranges, like PVC bathroom panels, which are built for constant moisture. Using the wrong board in a bathroom ends with swelling and regret.
Can they be installed over existing wallpaper? +
If the wallpaper is firmly bonded and flat, sometimes. Loose or heavily textured wallpaper should come off first so the boards sit true. Painted walls in good condition are the ideal base and need the least preparation.
Can I paint them a different color? +
You can, but it partly defeats the purpose: the factory charcoal finish is even and durable in a way brush paint struggles to match on louvers. If you want a different color, choose a different board rather than repainting charcoal.
Will they make my room feel dark? +
On a single feature wall, no. They add depth without darkening the room, especially with light furniture and good lighting. Covering every wall in near-black is a different story; we will tell you straight if your room is too small for full coverage.
Can a TV be mounted on them? +
Yes, and charcoal louvers are one of the best backdrops for a TV. The bracket fixes through the louvers into the wall behind, and cables run concealed. Plan it before installation so slats are cut cleanly around the bracket zone instead of after.
How do I clean between the slats? +
A vacuum with a brush or crevice attachment is the easiest tool; a soft long-bristle brush works too. Avoid wet-mopping between slats, since water sitting in the gaps does no finish any favors. Dry dusting is the whole routine.
